PhD, holds a BA from the Athens University of Economics & Business in Greece, a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Lancaster, an MSc and PhD from the University of Surrey. Currently, she is teaching at the Department of Business Administration of the University of the Aegean, Greece, where she lectures courses on Service Operations and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) management. Before joining the University of the Aegean, she had been lecturing at the Universities of Strathclyde, Westminster and Surrey in the UK. She has professional experience from the hospitality industry in Greece, while she has also contributed to several international research and consultancy projects in hospitality and tourism as well as in socio-economic development, e.g. Tempus-Phare, EAR-European Commission funded projects.

Her major research interests and publications are in service operations management and ICT applications management in tourism and hospitality. Her work has been published in several international academic journals and conferences, as well as it has received more than nine best papers awards. She has published one book on cultural tourism and three books on ICT applications and management in tourism and hospitality. She has also been an invited keynote speaker in several international conferences organized by reputable organizations such as the Learning & Skills Council (UK), Hotel & Catering International Management Association (HCIMA), HELEXPO, Greek National Network of Research & Technology (GNRT), European Federation of the Association of Professional Congress Organisers (EFAPCO).

She currently serves on the editorial board of nineteen international journals and on the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Information Technology, Tourism and Travel (IFITT) (as Membership Director), on the Board of Directors of International Council of Hospitality & Restaurant Institutions Educators (I-CHRIE) (as Director of Information and Publications), and the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Association of Information Systems (HeAIS) (as Publicity Director). Ms Sigala has also served on the Executive Board of the European Council on Hospitality, Restaurant and Institutional Education (EuroCHRIE) (as President, 2004 - 2005).
